Let's Talk About Swords | Belly Dance Course
How and why do we use swords in American Middle Eastern dance? What do we know about how artists wield swords in the MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North Africa, Hellenic, and Turkish) region? What do we know about its history in the USA? And of course, what is your relationship with it?
We’ll discuss the sword’s legacy and how we deploy it in our personal dance. Then we’ll shift our exploration into a creative dance space. I’ll guide us through tasks and exercises to gently move around and hold this space of tension. These will then lead us to take the first steps to create a sword dance based in this friction.

The 7-Part Routine: Classic American Belly Dance | Belly Dance Course
Between the 1950s and 1970s, Classic American Belly dance developed its own style. One of its legacies is the 5- and 7-part routine. In this course, we’ll sample the different sections. Learn the music order. What to do in each section. When and how to use a prop. Safety is first in floorwork. How a band and dancer indicate a transition to the next section. The difference between an Egyptian and Turkish entrance.

Let's Prepare to Dance & Move | Health Course
Let’s start off this week of living our daily lives while dancing in our spare time by setting up a good routine. Amara will cover proper warmup and cool down practices and stretching and fascia release methods to keep our bodies healthy. How to check in with our body to prevent injuries and translate movements so they work right now. Basic nutrition to keep our energy going. Pacing to sustain our energy. And managing expectations to keep our minds and spirits balanced. Our goal by the end of the week is to feel inspired and ready to go. So, let’s do this!
